Farmhouse Addition
Chatham County, NC - 2,000 Sq ft
This rugged old farmhouse has continued to grow organically amidst a lush garden and thick forest in rural Chatham County, and now features a contemporary, anchoring structure for a growing family.
The addition was carefully sited to both overlook the expansive garden and provide the opportunity to feel aloft in the trees. The addition nearly doubles the size of the existing house and adds a master suite and living room, plus laundry room and kids’ romper room in the walk-out basement. In fashion with the original house, the new wing was clad in traditional cedar shake with cedar trim. As an accent to the cedar, metal roofing panels from a nearby barn were salvaged and applied to the portion of this building designed to host a window trellis for flowering vines.
