Pittsboro, NC - 12,000 Sq ft

Having stood proudly at the center of town since 1891, the Chatham County Courthouse is the most prominent building in Pittsboro. In 2010, after a devastating fire, Hobbs Architects was commissioned to evaluate the remaining structure and determine feasibility of reconstruction.

Engineering reports confirmed the masonry walls remained structurally sound, and a stabilization effort was immediately implemented. This reconstruction effort included restoring the courtroom, adding a history museum space, and designing administration areas.  The result is a completely modernized building that embodies the character and spirit of the original construction. The structure again stands as the symbolic anchor for downtown Pittsboro and the Chatham County government.
